What’s the best way to get a job as an electrician or heavy equipment operator?

I wanted to start a job as an Apprentice Electrician or a Heavy Equipment Operator. There are no unions here in Denver that I can find for either career. I don’t have any inside connections, and I don’t have a college education.

I have tried Craigslist but most companies want someone with experience. So, how do I get experience if I need experience to get experience?

Can you train to become a heavy equipment operator? What if you have no prior experience but want to start?

I would like to operate heavy equipment such as a dozer, crane, excavator, etc. All the jobs I have seen require experience, how do I lean to do this if everyone wants you to know how already? I have seen schools that you can go to but they charge $10,000 for a 9 week class, I cannot afford this and prob wouldnt pay that if I could afford it.
