What would be a fair price for a contractor to charge for excavating and pouring 12 10″ 3 foot Sonotubes?

Hey Doc:
Just a few more questions:
1. Do you want them to layout the tubes and put the reinforcement in as well as ensure that they’re in the right place?
2. What are your soils like.
3. Do You want him to have insurance, workmans comp, medical, vacation and of course a license?
To go out & drill holes and pour concrete is easy, the rest of the issues that are involved can be very expensive. I’m not sure what area you live in, but equipment goes out at $75.00-150.00 per hour and labor at $35-65 depending on the trades. You will then have to add in the cost of transportation in and out. Then materials….
I would suggest that you get 3 local estimates from reputable contractors in order to get the best idea. Too many variables to give you a decent idea here.

They will most like just use a post hole auger and if that’s the case, you can expect to pay anywhere from $50-$100 a hole. So, $1200 at the most.
If they actually dig a trench, they will have to set a footing for the sonotube to pour on and then do a ton of bracing. It’d prob cost you more like $3500.

Hi,
I’m a Florida State Licensed Building Contractor and this is how I would estimate how much I would pay a subcontractor. The price would be dependent on the job, the terrain, digging conditions etc. This would be based on the Walkers building estimators guide to construction. Light Comercial pricing residential would be a little less.
Labor: 12 tubes, 24 hours, 2 men at $40.00/ hour = $1,920.00
Labor would include, supervision, layout, excavation, cutting and installing rebar, placement of tube and rebar, clean up.
Materials:
Concrete: 12 X .83 X 3 = 29.88/ 27 = 1.2 yards of concrete
3 yard minimum price on concrete, Concrete about $300
Rebar: 8 rods, 8 X $4 = $32.00
Sonotubes: 12 X $9 = $108.00
Misc: $100.00
Total Labor and Materials: $2,460.00
Overhead and Profit: $246.00
Total: $2,760.00
That figure could go either way depending on conditions, acess, equipment rental, if the contractor really needs work etc.
My additional advice, pay no more than 20% in advance, 40% at a half way point, the remaining 50% upon completion.
