What’s the best way to get a job as an electrician or heavy equipment operator?

Mr. Effectively Insane asked:
I wanted to start a job as an Apprentice Electrician or a Heavy Equipment Operator. There are no unions here in Denver that I can find for either career. I don’t have any inside connections, and I don’t have a college education.

I have tried Craigslist but most companies want someone with experience. So, how do I get experience if I need experience to get experience?
Thanks for your help with either electrical or heavy equipment.

you are either an electrician or not…go to school to learn; if a GI, get into a program with a big company that can afford an apprentice program.
don’t vacillate and don’t one hand know what the other hand is doing…employers don’t want to employ u as a electrician and have you talk about heavy equip.
If you can drove H E then go out and prove yourself up. It’ll take me 3 minutes to know if you can handle a dozier or backhoe etc.
go to school or find apprentice programs, they are usually 4 years on the job training.

I know people who have went to school to become an electrician and never got a job. Keep calling everyone, even the small companys just to get you foot in the door. Then after your sure your cut out for it you can think about going to school if you want to speed up your pay.
